PANAMA: Killer syndrome "is not contagious"

In early October the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) announced that the unknown syndrome that has killed 22 people over the last month in Panama is "not contagious". Because there is "no evidence of infection from patients to relatives or medical workers" PAHO sees "no justification for imposing measures that may interfere with the free movement of people or goods". Investigations to determine the cause of the syndrome, which has affected 51 people so far, continue.
